Breve historia de Lucena

Lucena is a town in the province of Cordoba, capital of the region of Cordoba Subbética. Its name comes from Eli ossana (the Hebrew God save us), the name which was originally called by the Jews , while Muslims called it al-Yussana. Others give a more ancient origin, Roman, and derive their name from the Latin Luciene 'Lucius' villa'.

Population is the main demographic and economic terms of the province after the capital.

The crossroads role played by the city, known as City of Three Cultures ( Jewish , Muslim and Christian ) or Pearl Sefarad by the Jews of the Middle Age , has encouraged human occupation of these lands. His role in the early period is important because Muslim core of the Jewish population in Al-Andalus. In fact, Lucena was inhabited exclusively by Jews between the ninth and twelfth centuries and its contribution to culture has been paramount.
