En España la tradición de Nochevieja más extendida es la de las doce uvas. Consiste en comerse una uva cada campanada que da el reloj a las 12 de la noche el día 31 de diciembre. De unos años a esta parte, se ha puesto también de moda llevar ropa interior roja: bragas, calzoncillos, una liga, etc. Normalmente estas prendas se regalan por los amigos y familiares.
Se dice que quien no coma las 12 uvas antes de que terminen las campanadas tendrá un año de mala suerte. En Lucena, hay personas que se reúnen para el año nuevo en la Plaza Nueva frente al ayuntamiento y nuestro portal de belén. Otras personas se reúnen con la familia. Después de comerse las uvas la juventud se va de fiesta, aquí lo más popular es irse de cotillón o al centro con los amigos hasta que el cuerpo no aguante más.
